New Plan

So today was a wild day! As I was sitting around on the Mayfair Hotel balcony, I met this guy who turned out to be a graduate student at Princeton who also studies monks. And on top of that, he also wants to go to Sohag! He hadn't initially made plans to go, but we decided to head to the train station to get him a ticket to go to Luxor with me. In the process of picking out tickets, we found out there is another train that will put us in Sohag at 7:00 AM tomorrow instead. So we switched plans and will hopefully be pulling into Sohag in the morning. Even better, one of the pro archaeologists from my dig offered to help me. Her favorite driver will pick us up at the train station, and an inspector is going to give us a tour of the White and Red Monasteries! I am not entirely sure which train I will take to get to Luxor, but it will work out because there are plenty of them, and I will have people to ask for help. And it is fabulous to have a friend to travel with. This sudden change might seem wild to some of you (i.e. my parents...) but it just seems to be the way things work in Egypt. Plans change all the time, and a lot of arrangements are just made short notice. I'm going to go with the flow.

Tomorrow, Insha'allah, I get to see the White Monastery! I have been waiting YEARS for this.
