Trashy Books

This week was our last week of excavation, and next week will be spent finishing up paperwork. I need to finish doing detailed drawings of my walls, as well as a final top plan for the whole unit. It’s a little sad – I feel like I didn’t get much done at all. I’m well over a meter down at this point, but most of that was sand. Only yesterday did I hit something new. Mud brick tumble! Basically it’s where the ceiling of my room fell in. To find out what was actually IN my room, I guess I’d have to stay for another season… I dug out a lot of compact sand mixed with clay today, and it was cool. As water runs through a mud brick building, it washes away bits of brick, which then re-dries in a new formation, especially in the corners of a room.

Anafora has been a wild and crazy place this week, especially the day when we had no electricity and sat around for hours unable to work. Fortunately we have classic literature such as Secret Life of a Vampire, which, as you can see, has brought joy to so many of us:

Sure, it's not the best book I've ever read, but lines such as "There must be something in the water, except the Vamps didn't drink water" make the book great to pass around.

Also, the heroine is one of the easiest I have ever encountered, not that I'm a paranormal romance connoisseur. Apparently it takes roughly three hours of actual time spent with somebody to fall in love. Perhaps I'll have to check out the rest of Kerrelyn Sparks's "Love At Stake" series. Other titles include, Forbidden Nights with a Vampire and All I Want for Christmas is a Vampire. Amazing.

Overall, the digging experience has been fun. I got to sort through ancient camel poop and ash the other day, which was quite exciting. And because one of us found a dog skeleton in her unit (not ancient, but quite interesting), we learned a lot of interesting information. Such as that male dogs have penis bones. Who knew? I don't feel like I've changed too much physically, except for my ridiculous hand tan.

I am not sure what I'll be doing in Cairo tomorrow, but it's looking like I will have to go on an adventure to the train station, so I can buy my ticket to Luxor. I have heard it is very difficult to find your way around the station but I am holding out hope that things will work out smoothly. Wish me luck!

The picture of you perusing a romance novel amuses me . . . perhaps because you have such mischief in your eyes (and because you give me so much grief when I read a "grocery store" novel).
